Sprinkler identification markings are there to communicate the sprinkler’s actual specifications—the model, temperature rating, and often the orifice size or spray characteristics—so you know exactly what head you’re dealing with and can match it to the design, replacement parts, and NFPA 13R requirements. This unique marking helps installers and inspectors verify that the correct head with the appropriate temperature rating and flow characteristics is used in the system. Color coding isn’t universal across all manufacturers, and dates of manufacture or supplier catalog numbers by themselves don’t convey the full set of performance characteristics needed for proper selection and replacement.
